Up early on Monday, dropped Rick at Eltham station to go to w***, then up to the golf club. Played as well as I am able but only got second place (£4) because one of the chaps astonished himself by playing eight shots better than his handicap. A merry session, then to the post office to despatch my first eBay sale.
A quiet afternoon, then started cooking at around five. Rick and Tom turned up on time and I gave them a spicy aubergine sort of stew and an egg and potato dum. Very tasty. Helen biked down from North London on her red Ducati to say hello, music was played (I have just got the new White Stripes and Coldplay albums from Amazon), and it became bedtime.
The bin men come at 6.30 on Tuesday mornings and, understandably, make a lot of noise, and I woke with a hint of hangover. Must have been something I ate. I took the lads to the tube at North Greenwich, then went out to get a new gadget - it is a Bose speaker system with a docking bay for an iPod. When I got home, the iPod itself arrived from Amazon, and it was like Christmas around here as I unpacked the goodies. Then of course I had to read the instructions, causing me to find excuses for not proceeding all at once.
But I have got it all working now. Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" was first on, then the new White Stripes. I'm already wondering whether 20 Gigs will be enough, though I suppose I'll keep the old Technics hi-fi for the heavy stuff, and I can delete unwanted tracks from the albums.
Started putting old clothes in a bin bag. There is an icelandic sweater that I bought at Delacroixriche in Geneva in 1966. It is very nice and still serviceable so I may reprieve it. And I am saving cardboard boxes to start putting books in for dispersal to charity shops.
Seniors Open at High Elms tomorrow. If I can find yesterday's form I'll be in with a shout. I've just realised that I have been so busy that I forgot to organise supper. I'll have a look in the freezer; although I've never used it much, there may be a pizza in there. I thought I might have a couple of suppers left over from the weekend, but the boys don't believe in leaving food on the table.
I forgot that there was rugby this morning, but I don't feel that I missed much. I feel an early night coming on.
